Title of the Conference
Work in Touch ! Collaborer pour mieux orienter
Date of the conference:
1st of June 2016
Place of the conference:
CESW (Conseil économique et social de Wallonie), Liège, Belgium
Description of the conference:
“Work in Touch !” was co-organised by Inforef and two participants of the School&Work project: the associated partner “Cité des Métiers de Liège” and “Fondation pour l’Enseignement”. It took place at the Walloon Council for Economic and Social Affairs. The purpose of the conference was to present initiatives to better integrate school education and the world of work.

The first presentation, by Inforef, was dedicated to "School&Work". Attendants were explained the project objectives, activities and results and were shown the different sections of the project portal. Then, two teachers from associated schools explained their involvement in the project activities and how students reacted to them. The first teacher, from Collège Sainte-Véronique (Liège), explained how her students shot the videos of employees, entrepreneurs and successful people produced for the project. The second teacher, from Collège Saint-Martin (Seraing), presented a cooperation project between eight schools, supported by the European Social Fund. This original project let students at risk of early school leaving carry out traineeships in a partner school that offers other options better fitting to their personal project.

Cité des Métiers presented its activities (offering concrete information about careers and training path, for a large range of users) and the initiative “E=mc2”. A set of short videos shot in the streets with random people showed that few people were able to answer the question “What is an enterprise?” The network of “Cité des Métiers” is established in many European countries. http://www.reseaucitesdesmetiers.com/

It gives schools the possibility to visit enterprises in their region. Since 2011, (beginning of the E=mc2 operation), Cité des Métiers de Liège has let 12,000 students visit 122 enterprises.

Fondation pour l’Enseignement presented its project “Entr’Apprendre”. Its purposes are to valorise students in vocational education, to provide positive information and awareness about occupations and to support school managements and headteachers who need it.

There were attendants from schools, vocational and continuing training organisations, universities, public bodies (provincial and regional levels), employment agencies, career guidance services, companies, junior achievement and organisations to support enterprises and entrepreneurship.
