Chapter 2: School intervention
Activities to carry out at school to recognize and capitalize on students’ interests/skills + Online Resources
Students learn best when incentives for learning in a classroom satisfy their own motives and needs for enrolling in the course. Their needs may vary from the need to learn something in order to complete a particular task or activity to the need the need to succeed and do well or the need to feel involved and to interact with other people. Satisfying such needs is rewarding and such rewards support learning effectively.

Teachers should consider such issues when designing assignments or in-class activities. School teachers, advisors and counsellors need to be equipped with the necessary skills and tools for better understanding students’ individual attitudes, interests and potential skills to be spent in their future career and valorise them in their learning process as a means of overcoming pupils’ demotivation. In addition, transversal skills that companies and recruiting services look for when selecting staff can be used by teachers as a valuable tool to motivate students at risk of early school leaving to continue their studies.

Gaining knowledge about how to design and implement personalised guidance services through the analysis of the personal attitudes of the student and of the skills that are requested by the job market is essential for teachers who try to motivate students to complete their studies.

Another vital tool provides teachers with profiles of jobs describing main tasks, identifying required qualifications, workload, knowledge, skills, competences, experience as well as personal aptitudes needed. Such tools can be used by school counsellors and teachers to help their students with their career orientation. Complex questionnaires and tests provide valuable information on skills, abilities, knowledge, work activities, and interests associated with jobs. Once students’ personal aptitudes are identified they are matched with what is requested on the job market.

The strength of this module is to gather (and remind) important theoretical principles (as learning styles, multiple intelligences…) and practical advice to cultivate the students’ talents and interests, for example planning extracurricular activities, developing entrepreneurial experiences at school, etc.

The most interesting and functional section for the type of students F.Datini IPS is the "SKILL & JOBS", to deepen the profile of the professionals and the levels of skills within the school.
Furthermore, the analysis of the job profiles of the different countries involved in the project highlights the actual demand in the labor market. It would be useful to have in the Italian language test to use them in school with our students. The clearly structured site, has a dress simple and straightforward graphics, and is quite simple to find the inserted content

The module focuses on how to unveil the interests and aptitudes of students in order to plan and implement personalized educational paths and guidance services which successfully valorise students’ talents. As balancing theory and practice is one of the principles of this tool the second module starts from theoretical considerations on interests, aptitudes and key competences as well as school autonomy and learning styles, which are practically supported by useful hands-on curricular and extracurricular activities, teaching methods used to capitalize on students’ interests and skills and an impressive collection of best practices, experiences, success stories as well as tips on how to use them in class. The chapter also highlights the important of parent involvement in children’s development and success at school and in life.
