Heating and sanitary system installer
Description of the job profile
The heating and sanitary unit installer requires special construction techniques. Depending on the characteristics of the building, it involves installing heating, sanitation and ventilation systems.

At the core of the work are the most representative professional acts. It includes the following heating technologies:
• Conventional and condensing gas and fuel boilers
• Installing wood and pellet stoves, including chimney stoves,
• Heat pumps,
• Autonomous air conditioning units,
• Sanitation and water treatment devices,
• Geothermal energy,
• Solar thermal collectors,
• Double flux ventilation system,
• Accumulation electric heaters.

The installer works alone or under the responsibility of a superior. He works alone, in a team of people with the same work, or in a multidisciplinary team.

The work is indoor (enclosed or covered locations), on a new construction site or restoration site, or at private individuals’.

Qualifications required
Full-time vocational upper secondary education (5th, 6th and 7th), section “construction”.
Training can be achieved through other cursus:
• Sandwich course in alternate training centres (CEFA), which combines apprenticeships in a company and vocational education at a vocational school in one course. An educational team accompanies, supports and guides students in all aspects of their project. Modules are the same as in full-time Education.
• IFAPME (sandwich course for self-employed and small and middle-sized enterprises) also offers a course for “electrician”, both in learning (3 years) and in small and mid-sized company (2 years) sector.
• Social advancement Education, high school, qualification (Machining technician, machining systems operator...)
• Forem (Walloon employment and training agency) also provides training in its eight centres in Wallonia. The training lasts 26 weeks.
• Employment seekers between 18 and 25, without a construction degree, can train in RAC (“Régime Apprentissage Construction”).
• Adults (>18 years old) who have learned the vocation through practice could have their skills officially recognised through validation of skills.
The “Environment” competence centre also proposes on advanced technologies related to energy efficiency (such as heat pump, pellet boilers, thermos-dynamic boilers...)
