3.3 Mobility opportunities for Schools With Erasmus+ KA2
Under Key Action 2, among the funding opportunities, it is possible to develop Strategic Partnership only between schools. The aim of the partnership is to create a group to tackle particular issues related to schools education, such as teaching standards, entrepreneurship, citizenship, basic skills or linguistic skills, through collaboration and innovation. Projects must involve a minimum of two schools from two different programme countries. One of the schools must be the applicant organization and the application must be submitted to the National Agency of the country in which the applicant organisation is established.

Strategic Partnerships may also organise transnational training, teaching and learning activities for individuals, but it is necessary to demonstrate that they bring added value to achieve the project's objectives. In particular it is possible to organise:
  • Short-term exchanges of groups of pupils: pupils work together (5 days to 2 months) in one of the partner schools and can be hosted in each other’s' families. Joint project work during the visits should be linked to the aims of the Strategic Partnership. Joint project work events during the visits should give pupils and teachers in different countries an opportunity to work together on one or more topics of mutual interest. They help pupils and teachers to acquire and improve skills not only in the topic or subject area on which the project is focused, but also in terms of teamwork, intercultural learning, social relations, planning and undertaking project activities and using information and communication technologies (ICT).
  • Long-term study mobility of pupils: the aim of the activity is to strengthen the cooperation between the schools involved in the same Strategic Partnership. The activity also allows pupils to develop their understanding of the diversity of European cultures and languages, and helps them acquire competences necessary for their personal development. Participants are selected by the schools. They need to be pupils aged at least 14 and be enrolled full-time in a school participating in the Strategic Partnership. Selected pupils can spend between 2 and 12 months in a receiving school and a host family abroad.

The duration of these projects is between 12 and 36 months. In both cases schools are encouraged to use eTwinning in order to work together on the project before and after the mobility events.

The three elements of a strong application are:
  • Relevance to the priorities of the Strategic Partnership
  • Quality of the project design (work programme, objectives and activities proposed)
  • Impact meaning that the project should be supported by well-crafted dissemination and evaluation plans carried out through the project.

In Belgium a group of secondary schools is involved in a pilot project supported by the European Social Fund. The “Accrojump” project is a cooperation project between eight technical and vocational schools located in the same region. This original project lets students at risk of early school leaving carry out traineeships in a partner school that offers other options better fitting to their personal project.
It is an innovative concept of “mobility” that can be applied inside a country or region. Thanks to this project the traditional competitive relationship between schools turns into complicity and solidarity.

For teachers the section of the portal is useful because it offers a series of tests to know and exalt the pupils’ potentialities. Teachers can also inform pupils about the concrete possibilities of working and living abroad.
The contents of the package are undoubtedly very useful, because they permit the deep knowledge of all the possibilities offered by the labour market.
In particular the Mobility section offers an exhaustive explanation of how many possibilities are now offered by the European Union for those who want to start relationships with foreign countries. Finally it stresses the importance and the opportunity to start entrepreneurship at school, so students can start to think about this possibility since they are attending their schools.

All modules are well written, especially the fifth one on “Mobility to learn and work”. It gives ideas about apprenticeship and I think in our society, it’s a good alternative for young students to enter the job market. It would be interesting for every European country to develop this kind of training.

This module focuses on how schools can motivate students to complete their school path and accelerate their preparation for the job market through voluntary service and work experience abroad making use of mobility funding and cooperation initiatives. The module deals with general information about mobility, some statistics and European policies, goals and benchmarks, its impact on social life, necessary intercultural understanding and transversal skills and practical tips on application forms and procedures to be respected. The theoretical issues are supported by a collection of students’ success mobility stories.
