Chapter 5: Collection of best practices, experiences, success stories
Experiences + Online Resources
The materials support the idea that learning is a lifelong endeavour which young people should pursue all their lives. They provide meaningful, real-life learning experiences which can help students make the right decisions for their future. The materials are rich in personal experience, which gives good food for thought, encourages discussions and gives excellent examples to follow. The materials emphasise the importance of school education, which helped successful entrepreneurs develop their business. There is common agreement that school is necessary. The knowledge and skills acquired through education have helped people in life: “school gives people an intellectual background which is not essential in success but helps one save a lot of time,” “school has offered the basic general knowledge which has enabled me to handle complex and diverse circumstances as well as interacting with people from different walks of life.” School is appreciated as beneficial for “offering students choices by opening doors to a wide range of fields.” School opens students’ eyes to the complexity of the world and familiarises them with contemporary issues such as finances, human resources or cultural issues. Some respondents held that school is important because it ”structures one’s mind and stirs one’s curiosity”, which are essential ingredients in our changing and demanding world. “I think school should structure your thoughts –you can learn things later; a well-structured brain allows you to think and reason about different issues so that you can adapt to a specific field.” What school taught other participants is autonomy, how to handle a lot of work, curiosity and open-mindedness. The inspiring examples presented will undoubtedly increase students’ motivation to learn, complete their education in order to reach their potential in life.

The strength of this module is to gather (and remind) important theoretical principles (as learning styles, multiple intelligences…) and practical advice to cultivate the students’ talents and interests, for example planning extracurricular activities, developing entrepreneurial experiences at school, etc.

The most interesting and functional section for the type of students F.Datini IPS is the "SKILL & JOBS", to deepen the profile of the professionals and the levels of skills within the school.
Furthermore, the analysis of the job profiles of the different countries involved in the project highlights the actual demand in the labor market. It would be useful to have in the Italian language test to use them in school with our students. The clearly structured site, has a dress simple and straightforward graphics, and is quite simple to find the inserted content

The module focuses on how to unveil the interests and aptitudes of students in order to plan and implement personalized educational paths and guidance services which successfully valorise students’ talents. As balancing theory and practice is one of the principles of this tool the second module starts from theoretical considerations on interests, aptitudes and key competences as well as school autonomy and learning styles, which are practically supported by useful hands-on curricular and extracurricular activities, teaching methods used to capitalize on students’ interests and skills and an impressive collection of best practices, experiences, success stories as well as tips on how to use them in class. The chapter also highlights the important of parent involvement in children’s development and success at school and in life.
