Description of the job profile
The web developer is responsible for the technical part of websites.
They design websites or adapt existing technical solutions depending on the customer or business’ requests and on the basis of specifications. As a specialist of computer science languages, they support all the activities of the site, its planning, data access and writing lines of code containing text, sound and images.
They are able to works under pressure to manage last minute deadlines. The web developer should be quick and proactive. Before putting the website online, they perform a series of tests in order to ensure the correct functioning of the system. They write manuals / technical manuals of installation and exploitation for users or he directly plan them with new features.
Seen as the only one who can manage with technical problems, the web developer also provides the maintenance and the further development of the site. Once a technical problem occurs, they are able to solve it. As technologies changes very quickly in this field, this professional should constantly update the knowledge of programming languages, software and hardware.
The web developer generally work in Information Technology Consulting Companies that develop web applications, web agencies, communication agencies, companies for the development of internal projects, consulting firms in IT and so on. They can carry out projects of all sizes in a wide variety of industries: telecommunications, transport, banking, insurances, automotive, commercial or retail. He can also work as independent.
Under the supervision of a technical project manager, they can work in collaboration with web-designers. Given the lack of web developers, their workload can be substantial and it may vary. If they work in large companies, their schedules are fixed and more elastic than in small enterprises. In small companies, they can handle multiple activities.
Thanks to the new CMS (Content Management System) that facilitate writing on the websites, their main activity is analysis and no longer programming.
